Please read these Terms of Service (“Terms”) carefully before using any TigrinyaDict app or our website (together, the “Services”). The Services are operated by TigrinyaDict (“us,” “we,” or “our”), an independent developer project that makes offline-first apps for Tigrinya speakers and learners on iPhone, iPad, and Android.

Scope: These Terms apply to all TigrinyaDict apps and to our website at tigrinyadict.com, including dictionaries, translators, keyboards, quizzes, notes, and alphabet, vocabulary, and other learning and reference apps. Features vary between apps and between iPhone, iPad, and Android.

Acceptance of Terms

By downloading, installing, or using any TigrinyaDict app, or by using our website, you agree to be bound by these Terms and acknowledge our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree with these Terms, do not use the Services.

Our Services

TigrinyaDict makes apps for iPhone, iPad, and Android and runs the website tigrinyadict.com. Our apps include:

  • Dictionary and translator apps: Tigrinya and English translations and definitions, with features such as favorites, search history, and offline use where available.
  • Keyboard apps: Keyboards for typing in Geez script on your device, with layouts and features that vary by app.
  • Quiz and learning apps: Lessons, quizzes, and practice exercises, with progress tracking in some apps.
  • Notes apps: Note-taking in Tigrinya with a built-in Geez keyboard.

We also make alphabet guides, picture vocabularies, verb trainers, and reference apps such as road signs and proverbs.

Not every app has every feature. Features, content, and availability differ by app and by platform and may change over time. Some apps are free with ads, and some offer optional premium upgrades that remove ads and unlock extra features. Some features, such as ads, purchases, and any sync, need an internet connection. Our website provides information about our apps, links to the app stores, and a way to contact us.

Eligibility

You must be at least 13 years old, or the higher minimum age required where you live, to use the Services. By using the Services, you confirm that you meet this requirement.

User Accounts and Registration

Some apps or features may let you create an account or sign in. If you do:

  • You are responsible for keeping your sign-in details confidential
  • You agree to give us accurate and complete information
  • You are responsible for all activity under your account
  • You can delete your account and its data at any time, using the option in the app if it has one or by emailing Tigrinyadict@gmail.com

Acceptable Use

You agree to use the Services only for lawful purposes and in accordance with these Terms. You may not use the Services to:

  • Violate any applicable laws or regulations
  • Transmit harmful, offensive, or inappropriate content, including through our contact form
  • Try to gain unauthorized access to the Services, our systems, or other users’ accounts
  • Interfere with or disrupt the Services
  • Use automated systems, such as bots or scrapers, to access the Services without permission
  • Copy, modify, or distribute any app’s content without authorization
  • Reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble any app, except where the law allows it
  • Use keyboard apps to collect or transmit sensitive information without consent
  • Circumvent any security measures or access controls

Intellectual Property Rights

Our Content

  • The Services and their original content, features, and functionality, including dictionary content, translations, keyboard layouts, and app designs, are owned by TigrinyaDict or its licensors and are protected by copyright, trademark, and other laws
  • We give you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to use our apps on your devices for your personal, non-commercial use, under these Terms
  • You may not use our names, logos, or trademarks without our prior written consent

Your Content

  • You keep ownership of content you create, such as notes, personal translations, and custom keyboard words
  • If an app offers backup or sync, you give us permission to store and sync your content for that purpose
  • You are responsible for the accuracy and legality of your content
  • We may remove content that violates these Terms

Premium Features, Subscriptions, and Ads

Premium and Subscriptions

  • Some apps offer optional premium upgrades or subscriptions that remove ads and provide extra features
  • Apple or Google processes your purchase. Prices and billing terms are shown in the app before you buy
  • Subscriptions renew automatically unless you cancel before the renewal date. You can manage or cancel a subscription in your Apple ID or Google Play subscription settings
  • Refunds are handled by Apple or Google under their policies
  • If a free trial is offered, it converts to a paid subscription unless you cancel before the trial ends

Ads

  • Free versions of our apps show ads through Google AdMob, and our website shows ads through Google AdSense
  • Ads may be personalized based on your interests and activity. Our Privacy Policy explains your choices
  • A premium upgrade removes ads in the apps that offer one
  • We are not responsible for the content of third-party ads

Privacy and Data Protection

Our Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect information when you use the Services. By using the Services, you acknowledge the Privacy Policy.

Disclaimers and Limitations

Availability

  • We aim to keep the Services available but cannot guarantee uninterrupted access
  • The Services may be unavailable from time to time because of maintenance or technical issues
  • We may change or discontinue features at any time

Content Accuracy

  • We aim for accuracy in translations and definitions but cannot guarantee that they are complete or error-free
  • Please check important translations with other sources
  • Learning and reference content, such as road signs, is for study only. Check official sources for anything that affects your safety or legal obligations
  • We are not responsible for decisions you make based on app content

Warranties

To the extent permitted by law, the Services are provided “as is” and “as available,” without warranties of any kind.

Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law: we will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages. Our total liability will not exceed the amount you paid for the Services in the past 12 months. We are not liable for data loss, though we make reasonable efforts to prevent it.

Nothing in these Terms limits any rights you have under mandatory consumer protection laws, or any liability that cannot be excluded by law.

Termination

By You

  • You may stop using the Services at any time
  • You may delete your account and its data as described under “User Accounts and Registration”

By Us

We may suspend or end your access if you:

  • Violate these Terms or our policies
  • Engage in prohibited activities
  • Fail to pay for premium services

Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time and will change the “Last Updated” date when we do. For material changes, we will also let you know by posting updates in the app or on our website, by email (if we have your email address), or with a prominent notice in the Services. Your continued use of the Services after changes are posted means you accept the updated Terms.

Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the country where TigrinyaDict is based, without regard to conflict-of-law rules, and disputes will be handled by the competent courts there. If you are a consumer, you also keep the protection of the mandatory consumer laws where you live, including any right to bring a claim in your local courts.

Third-Party Services

The Services may contain links to third-party websites, ads, and services, such as the App Store, Google Play, and Facebook. We are not responsible for their content, privacy policies, or practices.

Apple App Store and Google Play

Your use of our apps is also subject to the terms of the store you downloaded them from: for iPhone and iPad, the Apple Media Services Terms and Conditions and Apple’s Licensed Application End User License Agreement, and for Android, the Google Play Terms of Service.

Apple and Google are not parties to these Terms and are not responsible for our apps, their content, maintenance, or support. Please send questions, complaints, or claims about an app to us at Tigrinyadict@gmail.com. For iPhone and iPad apps, Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these Terms and may enforce them against you.

Severability

If any provision of these Terms is found to be unenforceable, the remaining provisions will continue in full force and effect.

Entire Agreement

These Terms, together with our Privacy Policy and the store terms mentioned above, are the entire agreement between you and TigrinyaDict about the Services.

This Terms of Service is effective as of the date stated above and will remain in effect except with respect to any changes in its provisions in the future, which will be in effect immediately after being posted on this page.
